Falcao will miss the World Cup
Colombia's star and one of the best players in Europe will miss the World Cup in Brazil. “The Tiger” could not be recovered after an ACL injury and did not make it to the 23 men squad Colombia will take to Brazil.
Despite having a five star medical and recovery staff and his best efforts, Falcao is not fit enough and can't play. There is simply not enough time to recover after a torn Ante Cruciate Ligament in January.
At the time of the injury it seemed crazy to think he could be back on the pitch in six months because normally, an ACL injury followed by surgery grounds a player for at least nine months. However, Falcao recovered very well and fast and he even joined Colombia for training camp and hopes were high, but the latest exam revealed he is not fit to play.
Colombia's coach Jose Pekerman made his mind and the list sent by him to FIFA with the roster does not include Falcao. “We can say to all of Colombia that he did more than was within his power to play. He deserved the right for us to wait and keep the hope alive,” said Pekerman.
Falcao was disappointed, but still said he will travel to Brazil to cheer on his team mates. “I had lots of hopes but, well we've got to press on an support the team from the outside and wish all my team mates the best for a good World Cup. I am in a very good shape, but I still need a bit more time to play again and I didn't want to deny a place to a team mate who was 100 percent fit,” Falcao said.
With Falcao out, Jose Pekerman will rely on Carlos Bacca (Sevilla), Teofilo Gutierrez (River Plate), Jackson Martinez (Porto), Victor Ibarbo (Cagliari) and Adrian Ramos (Herta Berlin) to score.
