Drama in Valencia

Valencia managed to overcome a three goal deficit against FC Basel to reach Europa League semifinals and it was two minutes away of repeating the story. The “bats” were knocked out by Sevilla who snatched the last place for the final.

It appeared to be another magic night at Mestalla stadium in Valencia. The bats were two goals down after the first leg in Sevilla. By half time, Valencia tied the duel at two. The whole stadium erupted 20 minutes before then end when Mathieu scored for 3-0 and Valencia had the tickets for the final in its back pocket.

Almost 55,000 fans were celebrating and cheering when the dagger struck. Deep in the stoppage time, Stephane M'Bia headed in the ball from close range and delivered the most excruciating loss for Valencia this season. The “bats” were denied to reach the final after a 3-3 aggregate score with Sevilla having the advantage of an away goal.

The Andalusian team will meet Benfica in the last round of Europa League. The Portuguese side managed to beat Juventus 2-1 on aggregate. The final will take place in Turin, Italy on 14 May.
