Diego Costa clinched the World Cup squad
Spain's coach, Vicente del Bosque made his mind over the 23 men squad for the World Cup in Brazil. Although battling a hamstring injury, Diego Costa was named on the list that will take on Rio.
Probably the biggest Spanish names that will miss the World Cup are Fernando Llorente, Alvaro Negredo and Jesus Navas. Llorente had a great season with Juventus. He won Serie A and was the team's second most prolific striker with 16 goals after Carlos Tevez. Negredo and Navas, both with Manchester City also managed to win the domestic competition. Negredo scored nine goals, but Navas has be struggling with an ankle injury for a few months.
Brazilian-born striker Diego Costa has less than two weeks to be ready for Spain's World Cup debut. His hamstring problem emerged about a month ago and limited him to only nine minutes in the Champions League final lost by his team. However, his season with 27 goals in La Liga convinced Del Bosque to take a calculated risk and retain him for the World Cup.
Here's the 23-men squad Del Bosque retained for the Word Cup:
Goalkeepers: Iker Casillas (Real Madrid), David De Gea (Manchester United), Jose Manuel Reina (Napoli)
Defenders: Jordi Alba (Barcelona), Gerard Pique (Barcelona), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Javi Martinez (Bayern Munich), Raul Albiol (Napoli), Juanfran Torres (Atletico Madrid), Cesar Azpilicueta (Chelsea)
Midfielders: David Silva (Manchester City), Andres Iniesta (Barcelona), Cesc Fabregas (Barcelona), Xavi Hernandez (Barcelona), Sergio Busquets (Barcelona), Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid), Koke Resurreccion (Atletico Madrid), Santiago Cazorla (Arsenal), Juan Mata (Manchester United)
