David Knight is The Tough One 2014
After a four-year absence from the event, David Knight returns to the hard enduro competition, The Tough One, and claims the trophy, proving to everyone he had lost neither his speed nor his skills.
‘I’m over the moon to win this one – no one was going to beat me around Hawkstone Park,’ said an enthusiastic Knight after the end of the three-hour race.
Still, it wasn’t an easy win for the Manxman as he went through a serious crash on lap two, when a rope got tangled in his rear wheel. He was trying to find a way past Johnny Walker, the at the moment leader of the race.
‘I thought my race was ruined when I crashed, said Knight, ‘but I refused to quit. I put my head down and just charged. When I began to close in on Walker I knew I could win. I’d nothing left to give after I crossed the finish line – that was a tough win.’
Eventually, he managed to ride pass Walker and claim his award.
Johnny Walker, who had to settle for second place, said that ‘when Knight started to catch me I wasn’t able to lift my pace. He was on a mission – there was no stopping him today. It’s tough to take second, but I gave it my best shot.’
The third position was fought over between Graham Jarvis and Alfredo Gomez, the latter ending up on the podium.
