
A 50 million euro verdict
A Jewish family finally found some closure after a court in Berlin, Germany ordered the state to pay 50 million euros representing compensation for a chain of stores confiscated by the Nazis before the second World War.
During the “Aryanization” programme undertook by the Nazis before the war, Schocken family lost a series of shops owned especially in eastern Saxony region. The family descendents fought in court for years before receiving the final news.
Berlin's administrative tribunal ordered Germany to pay the Schocken's 30 million euros of compensation for the seizure of the chain and 20 million euros in interest. However, the decision is not definitive. The German state can appeal the decision, Berlin tribunal said in a statement.
