USA might send troops to Eastern Europe
The NATO Commander in Europe, was commissioned to provide countermeasures against the Russian military threat to Ukraine, and said on Wednesday that they may include U.S. troops in Eastern European members of the Alliance who feel threatened.
According to the American television station ABC News, General Philip Breedlove, of the U.S. Air Force, said in the interview for the U.S. agency Associated Press (AP) that they will not "rule out the involvement of any nation, including the United States."
Foreign ministers of the 28 NATO member states gave Breedlove a deadline until Tuesday to propose the 'steps' that will ensure the NATO members close to Russia that the other Member States will support them.
"In essence, we seek a package of land, air and maritime security to strengthen the eastern allies," said Gen. AP.
"I am instructed to present (measures) until next week. I intend to introduce them earlier," he added.
Asked again if the American troops could be sent to the front lines in the NATO countries closest to Russia, four-star American general replied "I will not remove contributions from any nation."
At the end of a NATO conference in Paris, Breedlove told the AP that the Russian military presence near the border of Ukraine is unchanged.
