Ukrainian citizen arrested in the Moscow region with weapons and explosives on him
An Ukrainian citizen, who was carrying arms and explosives, was arrested in the Moscow region, announced a senior Russian official on Friday, reported by Itar-Tass on the website.
According to the agency, Nikolai Ovsienko, the representative deputy for the Central Federal District of the Russian president, did not reject the possibility that the arrested man arrived in the region to organize a "guerrilla war."
"The so-called Ukrainian leadership addressed direct threats, of what they call a 'guerrilla war', on the Russian territory, and in this sense, the question is whether we are or not ready," for this, the official said.
"A man who arrived in Ukraine with a huge arsenal of ammunition and explosives - quite possible to translate these threats into action - was arrested in the Moscow region a few days ago," he said. "All the details of this situation are clarified now, and (the man) is under investigation," he added.
Overall, the crimes related to extremist activities increased last year by almost 20% in the Central Federal District, according to the same agency.
"Given the current developments in Ukraine, this situation is due to a strong concern," said Ovsienko.
