
The Turkish Premier claimes the victory in the municipal elections in Ankara
The Justice and Development party candidate (AKP) in Ankara city hall proclaimed on Monday the defeat on his opponent, after a whole night of counting and contesting the results.
"Mr. Prime Minister, you have paved the way. The citizens of Ankara and Turkey followed the way and gave us 45 percent of the vote. The road is clear," said ithe actual Mayor, Melih Gökcek,k in a press conference with Deputy Emrullah Isler and the Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag.
After counting 99.65 percent of the votes, Melih Gökcek won 44.74 percent of them, compared to 43.81 of his opponent from the Republican People's Party (CHP), Mansur Yavas.
The two mayoral candidates in Ankara, each proclaimed their victory on Sunday night in a tense atmosphere fueled by allegations of fraud and intimidation.
The Justice and Development Party (AKP) led by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan won a comfortable victory in the municipal elections that took place on Sunday in Turkey, with 45.5 of the vote, ahead of the main opposition categorically - CHP, 27, 9 percent of the vote, despite the corruption scandals that have recently targeted members of the Turkish Government.
The Turkish prime minister, in power since 2002, has warned his opponents that they will "pay the price" for the criticis and allegations in his concern in the last several months.
