The Serbs in Bosnia can not follow the example of Crimea
The situation in Bosnia, where the leader of the Serb entity in the country, Milorad Dodik, frequently threatens with a succession, and the Ukraine, where Crimea was recently annexed to Russia, can not be compared, said the British Foreign Minister William Hague.
"Let me be clear, the borders in the Balkans can not be reconfigured. Just one Bosnia, a sovereign one, in its current borders, can join the European Union," Hague said in a newspaper interview published Friday by the Bosnian Dnevni Avaz .
"It's a belief that I share with all my colleagues from the 28 member states of the European Union," added the British diplomat.
Inspired by the referendum from 16 March in Crimea, Republika Srpska's President, Milorad Dodik, has repeatedly expressed his ambition to separate the Serb entity of Bosnia, if the center of the country will continue to be strengthened, which is what the Muslim leaders want.
Since the end of the inter-war (1992-1995), Bosnia consists of two entities, Republika Srpska and the Muslim-Croat Federation, which are linked by weak central institutions.
"You can not make a comparison between the Republika Srpska entity and Crimea," said Hague.
"The actions taken by Russia in Ukraine are a frightening example of the illegal annexation that European Union member states unanimously condemn," he added.
