The new French premier prepares a new government
The new French premier, Manuel Valls, appointed to headof the government in Paris after the disastrous results of the Socialists in municipal elections, is preparing to form a new team on Tuesday, with the difficult task of reducing the budget deficit and taxes.
Choosing the former Interior Minister, known for its firmness and direct style in talks with political opponents and partners, to lead the government, threatens the presidential majority stability in France. Moreover, environmentalists, who don't aprove the right socialist positions promoted by Valls, threaten that they would not join the government unless their conditions are considered to political change.
Manuel Valls, aged 51, will take over the office of the former prime minister Jean-Marc Ayrault on Tuesday afternoon, in a ceremony at the Matignon. The announcement of the Cabinet is expected before the Council of Ministers scheduled for Wednesday or Thursday, under President Francois Hollande.
French president called Valls to be the head of the Government on Monday, with the mission to implement the "pact of responsibility," the cornerstone of the economic program initiated by Francois Hollande, who is considering reducing corporate taxes to stimulate job growth.
Moreover, President Francois Hollande said that the new prime minister will have the difficult task of 'persuading' the European Commission to show patience and flexibility in monitoring the measures taken by Paris to reduce the budget deficit, given that austerity policies have drastically diminished the popularity of the French socialists.
