Russian Minister of Culture cancels his visit in Italy
The Russian Minister of Culture canceled his visit in Italy. The Russian diplomat was supposed to visit a university in Venice to collect an award, but had to postpone it due to heavy criticism and protests.
“We are no denying him the award. Vladimir Medinsky canceled his visit and the ceremony has been postponed indefinitely,” said Ca' Foscari University spokesman, Federica Scotellaro. The Russian diplomat was supposed to pick up an award, but a petition signed by hundreds of students and also teachers baffled him.
Everything started after Medinsky said European cultures are depraved. “Perhaps Russia will be the last keeper of European culture, Christian values and truly European civilization,” said the Russian diplomat a few weeks ago. His statement sparked heavy criticism in Italy when he announced his visit.
