National Front wins 11 municipalities in local elections in France
Almost absent for more than two years from the local political landscape of France, the National Front (far right) will lead at least 11 cities after the municipal elections, confirming their anchoring the north and south of the country.
The FN president Marine Le Pen, enjoyed these results, which she sees as the beginning of a "new stage for FN". "For now we have to rely on a third major political force," she assured on Sunday night.
Defeated in Forbach (East), number two in the FN hierarchy, Florian Philippot, hailed "the best score in history" of the extreme right party.
In 1995, FN won three municipalities, all in the South, Toulon, Marignane and Orange, to which Vitrolles joined in 1997. At that time, the extreme right authorities have left the memory of a very contested municipal management.
