Israeli satelite placed to spy over Iran
A new Israeli spy satellite was placed on orbit on Thursday, announced the Ministry of Defence, in order to strengthen the means of surveillance on the activities on Israeli's enemy, Iran.
The observation satellite Ofek 10, which was launched into space on Wednesday evening, with the help of a long-range missile type Shavit model, is more advanced than the previous ones, showing the ability to 'jump' from one target to another, instead of 'sweeping' away the areas, said an official release from the Ministry.
The Defence Minister Moshe Yaalon, said that the Ofek 10 will allow "better management of close and distant threats at any time (...) and in all weather conditions."
Israel, considered the only nuclear power in the Middle East, which the authorities have not ever explicitly confirmed, suspects that Iran wants, under the cover of its Civilian Nuclear Program, to acquire atomic weapons.
Tehran categorically denies these accusations.
Before Ofek 10, Shavit type rockets were used to place six spy satellites in orbit, in the last half of 2010, from a base in the South.
