East and West meeting
The East and the West will meet on Thursday, in Geneva, to try to reach a compromise regarding the crisis in Ukraine. However, the Western officials fear that Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, will try to maintain the state of uncertainty in eastern Ukraine.
The foreign ministers of Russia, Ukraine and the United States will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the European Union to discuss the crisis in Ukraine and how Kiev could regain control of the towns in the east. Andrii Deshchitsia, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, said that tensions between his country and Russia can appease for negotiations, writes Reuters.
"I think we still have a chance to control this situation, using diplomatic measures. And we'll try that hard. And along with Ukraine are the United States," said the minister.
"However, now is the time not only to express our concerns, but also to find a concrete answer and appropriate plans and actions for Russia."
The US officials do not see a solution in Geneva, but if an agreement is not reached, then they will impose more sanctions on Russia.
The U.S. President Barack Obama said yesterday that Russia is subject to harsher penalties if they continue to support the separatists in Eastern Ukraine
"There will be consequences that we each time told Russia, who tried to destabilize Ukraine and violate the sovereignty of this country," the U.S. president said .
