Chocolate-maker favored in Ukrainian presidential race

While heavy fights are going on in the eastern part of Ukraine, the 21 registered presidential candidates are campaigning ahead of Sunday's vote.

With 34 percent of the vote, billionaire candidate Petro Poroshenko stands the best chances to be elected president.

Poroshenko, who is worth roughly $1 billion, a fortune gained from chocolate, addressed the crowd gathered at a rally: 'I’m sure what we are all fighting for is peace, calm and security, an economic upturn, absence of corruption and total international solidarity with Ukraine, which will enable us to not only restore order in the east, but also return Crimea soon.'

The presidential election that is due Sunday is, arguably, the most important vote for Ukrainians since the country gained its independence, 23 years ago.

However, clouds coming from the east threaten to disrupt the election proccess as pro-Russian separatists in the east vowed to interfere and use force if neccessary.

By electing a new president, Ukrainians hope and pray that stability and control will be brought back into their lives.
