Berlusconi’s first day of community service
Silvio Berlusconi, former Italian Prime Minister, sentenced to serve a four-years sentence last August for tax fraud, has begun, today, his one year of community service.
The former PM showed up in Milan at a community senior center where he is to work for a minimum of four hours at least once a week.
Not everyone is happy with Berlusconi performing community service after a member of a health care workers' trade union, Pippo Fiorito, showed up at the senior center and staged a small-scale protest. ‘His place is in jail, not here,’ he said.
Due to privacy rules, the center’s director forbade employees to take any pictures or videos of Berlusconi on the job.
For performing community service, Berlusconi’s four years sentence will be reduced to one year.
The former PM, on the other hand, continues to hold ground on claiming his innocence.
