Winners and losers in Apple vs. Samsung
The San Jose jury settled that Apple and Samsung both infringed each others patents and both of them are now good to pay.
Samsung has to pay its rival $120 million, although Apple initially pleaded for a $2.2 billion compensation while Apple has to pay Samsung $158,400.
Even though the amount Apple is to receive from its competition is less than 10% of the sum they would have wanted to receive, the company, nonetheless, sees this decision as a victory since it has proved to the jury that Samsung had, indeed stolen their ideas: ‘Samsung willfully stole our ideas.’
‘This amount is less than 10% of the amount Apple requested and probably doesn't surpass by too much the amount Apple spent litigating this case,’ said Brian Love of Santa Clara University.
It has been agreed, so far, that Samsung stole the ‘slide to unlock’ feature from Apple and some dial options while Apple stole an option that organizes photos and videos into folders.
