Wages discrepancies infuriate McDonald's workers
Over 100 demonstrators were arrested for protesting in front of a McDonald's restaurant near Chicago.
Fast-food workers demand a $15/hour minimum wage and the right to join trade unions.
On the other hand, Mcdonald's representatives regard the workers' requests as 'unrealistic' because 'we know that the minimum wage will increase over time.'
Discrepancies between wages infuriate workers, as chief executives in the fast-food industry earn, on average, 1,000 times the salary of a normal worker who is currently paid only $7.25 an hour.
'It’s time for the McDonald’s Corporation to stop pretending that it can’t boost pay for the people who make and serve their food,' said Mary Kay Henry, president of the Service Employees International Union.
McDonald' s Chief Executive, Don Thompson, earned a total compensation of $9.5 million in 2013.
Meanwhile, US President, Barack Obama, has been trying to convince the Congress to support the raise of the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour.
