Samsung replaces its mobile design chief
It was of the most awaited phones in 2014 and allegedly it did well for a while. However, critics immediately started criticizing the Samsung Galaxy S5 for its design and materials. Chang Dong-hoon is the first name to fall after Samsung's flagship was not received as expected.
Head of mobile design, offered his resignation and Samsung agreed with it. The tech giant promoted Lee Min-hyouk, the former vice-president to the top position as mobile design chief. At 42 years old, Lee Min is the youngest senior executive in the company.
“Vice President Min-hyouk Lee has recently been promoted to Head of Design Team within the Mobile Communications Business of Samsung Electronics. The realignment enables Executive Vice Presinde Dong-hoon Chang to focus more in his role as Head of Design Strategy Team, the company's corporate design center which is responsible for long-term design strategy across all of Samsung Electronics' business, including Mobile Communications,” was the official statement from Samsung.
However, the new design chief has to do something with the Galaxy series. The latest flagship brought back heavy criticism over the continuous use of plastic on top of the line devices. The Galaxy S5 was also under heavy vocal fire for not bringing ground breaking technology to the market. Some critics went a step further and said the S5 was a larger S4 and nothing more, regarding its design. Despite the heavy criticism, Galaxy S5 sold a few million units, but it was not even close of matching predicted figures. The release of the HTC One M8 hurt the S5 even more with tech specialists all agreeing HTC's design is better.
