Germany's beer consumption decreased

Germany celebrates with a series of events and 'open gates' the German Beer Day, the country's flagship product, although average consumption decreased progressively, in 2013 reachinng the lowest level since the reunification in 1990, reports the EFE agency.

According to the Federal Statistical Office, in 2013 were sold in Germany about 94.6 million hectoliters of beer, 1.7% less than the previous year.

The main export destinations were EU Member States, followed by the United States and China.

Despite the declining consumption for the seventh consecutive year, the number of producers of beer increased to 1,349, with nine more compared to 2012, with Bavaria (southern Germany) in the lead, with 623 breweries.

This is followed by the federal Baden- Wuerttemberg state (southwest), 185 manufacturers, and North Rhine-Westphalia (west) with 131. According to the Brewers Association, the country produced over 5,000 different types of beer.
