Ford recalls 1.4 million cars

It's another heavy blow for Ford Motor Co. The giant car maker announced it is recalling almost 1.4 million vehicles in North American. A possible loss of power steering made Ford call back mostly SUVs, but sedans also.

About 85 percent of all cars that are being recalled are in United States, the rest of them from Canada and Mexico. According to official figures released by Ford, almost 200,000 Explorer will be recalled in North American all made between 2011 and 2013 and almost 920,000 Escape and Mercury models model years 2008 to 2011. These model are all susceptible to power steering issues.

Sedan models like Taurus, Fusion, Mercury and Zephyr are recalled because of corrosion issues, and floor mats issues that may interfere with the acceleration pedal. All sedans add up to 290,000 vehicles.

So far this year, General Motors has recalled 15,8 million vehicles world wide and Ford close to the total amount of cars recalled the entire last year. Road safety regulators in the US have received reports of six injuries and five crashes related to Ford models. The company stated it was aware of more than a dozen accidents related to the loss of power steering in Explorer SUVs.
