Fifa sponsors demand bribery investigation on Qatar 2022
In an unusual move, Fifa's main sponsors have called out for an investigation on the 2022 Qatar World Cup bribery accusations.
Thus, Coca-Cola, Adidas, Sony, Visa and Hyundai have prompted Fifa to get to the bottom of the whole story and come up with a full report.
Former football official, Mohamed bin Hammam was accused of bribing colleagues around the world in an effort to secure the bid of the 2022 for Qatar.
Although he denied any such activities, he was, nonetheless, banned by Fifa.
The choice of place for the 2022 event has sparked such fiery controversies because it is unusual for a country that lacks domestic football tradition to host the World Cup. Moreover, the extreme weather conditions during the summer in Qatar coincide with the time of the event, thus raising many eyebrows as to the legitimacy of the bid.
Fifa sponsors have asked for a full report by the end of July, approximately a week after this year's World Cup come to an end.
