Fast food movement in Crimea
Burger King defied the conflicts in Crimea and announced their intent to open restaurants in the new Russian territory, writes Russia Today.
The U.S. group decision comes after thier main rival, McDonald's, announced on April 3 that it will close all its restaurants in Crimea.
"We plan to enter the market in the Crimea , but it is hard to say when this will happen," says Dmitry Medovy, CEO of Burger King Russia. The company has not yet decided how many restaurants it will open in Crimea.
Amid geopolitical conflicts and annexation of Crimea peninsula in Russia, McDonald's representatives in Ukraine announced last week that they will close three restaurants in Simferopol, Sevastopol and Yalta for 'operational' reasons. A spokesman for the U.S. company said the decision has political undertones.
Also, after a few days, the Austrian bank, Raiffeisen, announced it will also close on April 15, its last 6 units in Crimea.
