Coke drops cocaine reference slogan
Coca-Cola drops the ‘You’re on’ slogan for its Diet Coke campaign. The reason was that, thanks to an unfortunate positioning of the logo, the slogan seemed to spell ‘You’re on coke.’
After being mocked by many for what seemed to be an obvious cocaine campaign, the company removed the slogan. It was replaced with the old-timer ‘Just for the taste of it’ which was used for the first time in an 1983 Diet Coke campaign but made two more comebacks since.
The removed slogan created more fuss especially since Coca-Cola used to actually contain cocaine once.
Coca-Cola tried to make things clear as it stated that it ‘in no way endorses or supports the use of any illegal substance,’ and the slogan change is simply for ‘a different way to talk about the brand.’
