Banksy solves youth club’s money problems
An English youth club in Bristol, that was going through serious financial issues, was saved by the elusive graffiti artist, Banksy.
A picture showing a couple embracing while, at the same time, checking their smartphones, appeared on Banksy’s website last month. Afterwards, fans commenced on hunting the original which they located in Bristol, on the Broad Plain Boys’ wall.
The news came as a gift from the heavens for the club as they can now sell the picture for hundreds of thousands of dollars and say good-bye to their money problems. Past Banksy-signed artwork had been sold for prices ranging from $170,000 to nearly $850,000.
The youth club, which helps young people with problems, said about finding out they have a Banksy-work on their wall: ‘You dream that it's going to happen. You don't think it will happen, and when it does, it's like 'boom' -- it's like winning (on) a lottery ticket, really. ... I was ecstatic. It was such a buzz to think, 'hang on a minute, all our troubles are over.’
Banksy himself addressed a letter to Dennis Stinchcombe of the Broad Plain Boys Club, confirming the artwork was his: ‘I don't normally admit to causing criminal damage but seeing as it looks like charges won't be brought any time soon you have my blessing to do what is right with the piece.’
