WeChat is closing the gap

The never ending battle of instant chat apps is under going on the figures battle field. Every app reveals better and larger numbers almost every quarter. This time it was WeChat's turn.

 

Chinese Tencent revealed the latest figures regarding the first quarter of the year. According to those figures, WeChat has almost 400 million active users. At the end of last year, the same company was revealing it had 355 million active users so this is a major boost in the shire number of active users.

 

WeChat is probably WhatsApp's best competitor. The famous instant chat application had almost 450 million users when it was acquired by Facebook for 16 billion US dollars. Instant chat applications became very popular and managed to destroy the old fashion SMS because of its small limitations like sharing multimedia content like photo and video.

 

WeChat was developed by Chinese Tencent and it was released in 2011. The application is available on every OS out there and is supports more than 15 languages. According to Xinhua news agency, the application had 600 million users (active and non active) world wide at the end of 2013.
