Italy is not the place to be if you like fast Internet
If you like your Internet connection to go like the wind, or you are a hardcore gamer, then Italy is not the place to be. Italy has the lowest internet speeds in Europe and super-fast broadband is almost inexistent.
A recent study revealed that improvements are made when it come to infrastructure, but these improvements are slower than in any other country in Europe. Boardband connections are still unavailable in numerous locations in Italy. The same report revealed that broadband speeds above 10 Mbps are available to less than 20 percent of all providers in the country while the average is above 65 percent in Europe.
The most shocking statistic made public by the European Commission claims that almost 35 percent of all Italians have never used the Internet. The average in Europe is below 20 percent. The situation is not well regarded by the EU who advised Italy to upgrade its infrastructure. However, Italian officials claim the infrastructure has nothing to do with the low usage of the internet, but the lack of encouragement coming from the government.
Surprisingly, Italians do not seem to value a faster connection and they rather stick with their slow connection that rather pay extra for more speed. The government has already invested more than 1 billion euros to get basic broadband to the rural and isolated parts of the country.
