VW announces a ten-speed gearbox

Car makers around the world have been engaged in a never ending battle for performance. However, in recent years fuel cost made everyone really reconsider economy. Now, Volkswagen is taking a step further into autonomy by announcing the world's first 10-speed gear box.

The biggest car maker in Europe revealed its plans and allegedly, the 10-speed dual clutch transmission could hit the road next year. The first car to benefit of the new precious fuel saving gear box will most likely be the 2015 Passat.

The new gear box developed back in Germany will be capable of handling in excess of 350 pound-feet of torque and that means the GTIs and the R400s will no be left behind. According to VW, the new designed gear box will improve fuel economy by 20 percent across the entire Volkswagen group model range (Porsche, Lamborghini Audi, Bentley and Bugatti).

The concept was unveiled at the International Motor Symposium in Vienna, Austria and at the same show, Volkswagen introduced a new diesel engine for the future. A four cylinder 236 horse power engine to go along with the new gear box. We only have to sit and wait to see if the so called revolutionary gear box promised by the Germans will work properly and save the precious fuel.
