The helmet that ends electroshock therapy
An Israel-based company has launched a device that comes to aid those suffering from neurological and psychiatric disease such as depression or Alzheimer.
Basically, the device is a helmet which sends pulses to the brain, stimulating neurons and improving functions in the damaged areas. The technique is known as trans-cranial magnetic stimulation and it is, in fact, a considerably more gentler solution to electroshock therapy.
Ronen Segal, Brainsway's Chief Technology, explained the results they came to after testing the helmet: 'The result is remission and response rates which are higher than any treatment available today and we can give new hope and sometimes new life to these patients who have been suffering for years and years from these devastating conditions like clinical depression.'
The company claims its technology is one-of-a-kind and that it works better and has more efficient results than any other non-invasive method currently available. Also, the electromagnetic waves it emits are able to reach areas of the brain that were previously unreachable.
The company is, at present, conducting studies that could lead to a cure for diseases like Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, addictions, stress, eating disorders and possibly even epilepsy.
