Samsung launches its first Tizen OS powered phone
The smartphone Operating System market is dominated by Google's Android. Latest reports claim last year, more than 70 percent of all mobile devices around the world run on Android, but things are about to change.
Samsung is one of the biggest companies that runs Android on its devices. However, the Korean giant wants to reduce its reliance on Google. So, Samsung Electronics plans to launch its firs device running on its own Tizen Operating System this year.
Samsung has already built the smartphone and it's called Samsung “Z”. It comes with a 4.8 inch HD display and offers various features like most conventional phones. Samsung's design will be unveiled at the Tizen Developer Conference in San Francisco on the third on June. For obvious reasons the Korean giant will not test its own OS on the more sophisticated European and US markets. The “Z” will first be available in Russia this fall according to Samsung.
A world leader in market share, Samsung is trying to reduce dependance on Google's Android and various devices such as smartwatches are already running Tizen. There is even information that Samsung is working on two new devices powered by Tizen. However, the task of creating a new ecosystem is a huge one. Officials at Samsung said Tizen would be considered a success if it could power at least 5 percent of the Samsung smartphones in the near future.
Google's Android and Apple's Operating System are the most used in the world. Microsoft's mobile OS struggles with less than three percent of all existing devices running it, while other OS add up to a total of less than two percent.
