Orange France was hacked
Orange France was hacked for a second time in 2014. The French telecommunications corporation announced hackers have stolen data of 1.3 million customers. It is the second attack this year and the largest ever recorded by Orange.
In February the same telecom operator was under cyber attack and back then reported hackers stole data from 800,000 customers. However, Orange announced the breach a few days after the attack because of an internal investigation over the stolen data. The French carrier also confirmed a limited amount of personal information was vulnerable. Phone numbers (mobile and fix), emails, names and birth dates were the only information hackers were able to obtain, Orange stated.
“The data collected could be used to contact people involved in e-mail, SMS or telephone, including for phishing,” was the official warning released by Orange to all its customers. The company also said a team was made up to assist any customer around the clock on this problem.
The second data theft this year Orange had to face comes a month after Stephane Richard CEO, said the protection of customer data is fundamental for the company. Orange has around 200 million customers world wide and it is the most popular carrier in countries like France, UK (teamed up with T-Mobile), Poland, Slovakia, Romania and Egypt.
