Microsoft mends Internet Explorer bug

Microsoft has released a new update that resolves the security glitch in Internet Explorer.

The flaw of the browser was so serious that even the Homeland Security Department issued a public warning, advising people to switch to a different browser until the problem is resolved.

A surprising detail is that Microsoft fixed the IE problem even for Windows XP, although the company no longer supports this operating system. The explanation is that the bug in the browser was discovered very close to the date when Microsoft ceased its support for Windows XP, on April 8.

However, Microsoft continues to send advice to users of XP to make an upgrade to Windows 7 or 8 and to update their version of Internet Explorer to the most recent one, IE 11.

The bug located in Internet Explorer could ‘be used to silently install malicious software without any help from users, save for perhaps browsing to a hacked or malicious site,’ says Brian Krebs on a security fix blog.
