Happy birthday, Rubik's cube
Today, the world celebrates 40 years of Rubik’s cube, an intelligence exercising and logical thinking game.
The famous cube was first launched in 1980 and, since then, nearly one in seven people have played the puzzle.
Hungarian inventor, Erno Rubik, was invited to a seven-months exhibition that opens today in New Jersey and celebrates the cube’s history, stressing that the lines between art and science are not always clearly defined. The exhibit also has first prototypes of the toy, made out of wood and rubber bands.
Rubik declared that ‘more than half of my life I spent together with the cube in some way or another. And if I am thinking about my adult life, I can say most of my adult life I spent with the cube because I was only 30 (years old) when I created it. And right now, after 40 years I can say: ‘I know the cube, I know what happened around the cube.’
