Denmark’s Minecraft map got Americanized

The Danish government initiated an innovative project: to create the entire map of Denmark on the Minecraft platform. The map included even items such as fences, lampposts, landmarks and an exact replica of a famous castle.

The map was meant to attract a younger public’s interest to the geography, culture and history of Denmark.

Unfortunately, though, virtual vandals destroyed parts of the map by using virtual dynamite to blow it up and erecting large US flags and other red, white and blue American signs.

However, the state-owned Danish Geodata Agency kept things under control, saying that ‘only a minor area was destroyed’ and that the damage had been already repaired.

It was the players who cleaned up the damage, replacing it with green grass and flowers the following morning,’ said Chris Hammeken.

He also mentioned that the vandals only wanted attention: ‘The flags actually appeared right where the players start, so I think the people who put them there wanted to gain as much attention as possible.’
