Cyber crime rocketing in Germany

German police and officials are facing an ever increasing wave of cybercrime. The country recorded in 2013, the largest number of internet crimes in recent years and the biggest increase ever.

Data interception, phishing, computer fraud and sabotage, they all increased in numbers last year in Germany. However, computer sabotage gave the biggest headaches to Germany's cyberpolice. Media reported that the rate of solving cybercrimes is very low in the country with only one in ten cases being solved.

A specialized division of cyber law enforcement reported almost 65,000 cases of internet crimes nationwide in 2013 and predictions for 2014 are also worryingly. The worst part of it all, is that only a small part of crimes are reported because of people's uncertainty.

Some reports claim only about 20 percent of all cybercrimes are reported, while the rest of them go under the cover of silence. “For some people the shame of their own stupidity and greed is the driving motive for silence,” said Rainer Wendt, head of German police union to The Local.
