South-Korean President talks to ferry victims relatives
South Korean President Park Geun-hye made a visit to the Jindo region to meet with the families of the ferry disaster victims.
Twenty days after the Korean ferry had sunken taking with it the lives of hundreds of people, most of which children, the country’s president made a public apology for the catastrophe and promised to impose stricter, improved, safety regulation: ‘I apologize to the people that so many precious lives were lost.’
On Sunday’s visit, president Park also met with relatives of ferry passengers whose bodies have not been found yet.
The death toll of the ferry disaster is now at 240 victims out of the total number of 476 people who were on board the Sewol ferry. Only 177 people survived, out of which 22 out of the 29 crew members who fled the ship, leaving the passengers on board.
