Indian politician set on fire by burning man
Chaos erupted during an Indian live recording of a political debate after a man from the crowd set himself on fire and then grabbed hold of a politician.
While the attacker died from his injuries, the politician is still alive but in a critical condition.
The event took place in India’s northern state of Uttar Pradesh where the state-owned national television was recording an election show.
A man, named Durgesh Kumar Singh, came out of the crowd, poured gasoline over his body and set himself on fire. He then jumped on Kamruzzama Fauji, a local politician from the Bahujan Samaj Party, a national political party.
Both of them were rushed to the hospital but Singh died Tuesday night. Fauji, with severe burns covering 80 percent of his body, remains in critical condition.
The 35-years-old attacker was a worker at a flour mill and, while his reasons for the terrifying attack are unknown, his family claims that he was under treatment for mental instability.
India is in the middle of nationwide parliamentary elections that will conclude on May 12.
