Two billion dollars profit for a non-profit organization
The world governing body of football, also known as FIFA is a non-profit organization. But FIFA, the organizer of the Football World Cup recorded more than 4 billion dollars in income and a total profit of two billion US dollars.
A lot of Brazilians were very vocal because the country spent large amounts of money on hosting the event, but FIFA took all the credit and the income. There is no official report coming from FIFA, but German newspaper Handesblatt claims the competition generated 4.4 billion dollars. The net profit was two billions, exactly like four years ago. It is odd on how a non-profit organization can generate this amount of money in one month.
However, FIFA will shed a few hundred millions. According to the same source, out of the two billion dollar profit, the world football governing body will reward involved teams 570 million dollars. An additional 160 millions will go to club teams who had players at the final tournament. A further 200 millions will go to all 209 team that tried to reach the World Cup in Brazil.
However, after FIFA will pay all these amounts of money it will still be left with 1.2 billion dollars. According to FIFA, the money will be stored for “emergency situations”. Almost all FIFA critics said 1.2 billion dollars for a non-profit organizations in a month is not bad.
