Seven things you did not know about cabbage
There are certainly thing you did not know about cabbage, or maybe you did. Here are seven of them:
1. Cabbage is one of the oldest vegetables, dating from the 1600s.
2. Cabbage is available in many varieties: red or purple, green or Napa cabbage, usually used in Chinese cuisine, bok choi (Chinese young cabbage) and Brussels sprouts.
3. Cabbage has less saturated fat, 0 cholesterol, but more fiber, vitamins C, K, A, B6, folate (folic acid) potassium, manganese, thiamin, calcium, iron and magnesium.
4. Largest cabbage dish ever made was cooked in 2008 in the Macedonian city of Prilep, 80 191 rolls, weighing 544 kg.
5. Drinking cabbage juice is known in helping heal the stomach and intestinal ulcers.
6. If one looks at the ingredients of a low calorie diet, the cabbage is the top. One cup of chopped cabbage has just 15 calories. Clearly a food for weight loss.
7. Cabbage contains significant amounts of fiber and iron, which helps maintain a good and healthy condition of the digestive tract and colon.
