8 tricks for more hair volume
Here are some quick and simple fixes to give hair more volume.
Shower power
Using the right shampoo and conditioner is essential for lush full locks. Invest in a volumising shampoo.
Oil control
Pick a conditioner that is lighter in oils. Make sure you rinse it out completely and try using cold water while you do that. Don’t touch your hair or brush too often as the natural oils will also weigh it down.
No leave-in spray balms
After washing hair avoid leave-in oils, creams and serums. Go for a root lifting mousse. For an extra boost, try a volumising powder, worked into the roots. This will give your hair an instant thickness.
Wave lengths
Big curls and waves are a quick fix. Use hot rollers or a curling iron to curl sections of your hair and set with hair spray. Even if the curls drop throughout the day, the added texture will create the illusion of fullness.
Dry out upside down
Tip your head upside down to blow dry and utilise gravity to give you lift when you flip your hair back the right way. Part your hair where your normal part doesn’t usually fall and blowdry like this, before flipping back into its initial place.
The flick
If you only have two minutes for this and you need an instant volume boost, try this trick: use your straightening iron to add a slight curve to the ends of your hair to create a flick: it will give you an instant volume!
Make the cut
Ask your hairdresser for layers. Blunt ends are ideal for a fuller look. Also highlights and lowlights create dimension and will add life to flat colour and generally flat hair.
Think long term
If you are confronting a hair loss, tell that to your hairdresser. Try a scalp massage once a week. Try eating foods rich in protein and iron like salmon and spinach.
