
Turkish movie wins Palm d'Or award
'Winter's Sleep' was chosen to be the Palm d'Or winner at the Cannes Film Festival, thus becoming the second Turkish movie to ever win the prestigious award.
The film tells the story of a failing marriage in a mountain-top hotel. A critic described it as 'The Shining retold by Chekhov.'
During his acceptance speech, the Turkish director dedicated the award to 'to the young people of Turkey, those who lost their lives during the last year.'
The Palm d'Or award for 'Winter's Sleep' also crowns the anniversary of 100 years of Turkish cinema.
