Cannes festival commences
Cannes, arguably the biggest film festival worldwide, has commenced. The South of France will be the cinematic spotlight until May 25.
'Grace of Monaco' was the film that opened the festival, featuring Nicole Kidman as Grace Kelly.
Another movie, 'The Captive”, is a Canadian film competing for the Palm d'Or and it stars Ryan Reynolds. The film is a about a girl who went missing but, after eight years when she was presumed dead, mysterious signs about her still being alive keep revealing themselves.
Another movie competing for the Palm d'Or is 'The Horseman', directed by Tommy Lee Jones. The plot is about Mary Bee Cuddy who is on a mission to deliver three lunatics to an asylum. On her way from Nebraska to Iowa, she saves an outlaw from death who vows to aid Mary in her mission. The cast includes Meryl Streep, Tommy Lee Jones and Hilary Swank.
