Serbian athletes are helping flood victims

Serbia and Bosnia called for European help after the two small countries were hit by devastating floods. The first one to respond was tennis player Novak Djokovic.

The best Serbian tennis player has donated his entire prize money for winning the ATP Masters in Rome to his foundation to help the flood relief efforts in Serbia. Close to 2 million people were affected by heavy rainfall and floods and close to 50 died.

Djokovic received a 549,000 US dollars for winning the ATP Masters money that went to his foundation that managed to gather 100,000 dollar in the last three days. “People are struggling, people are losing homes. There has been a lot of casualties, but the government is not able to name and to number because they are still discovering new bodies as the flood is backing up. It has been a very emotional week for me, My thoughts and all my love are with my people in Serbia,” said Djokovic.

He was not the only Serbian athlete to help flood victims. Ana Ivanovic and Nenad Zimonjoc also donated one million Serbian dinar each (about 23,000 Dollars) while the Serbian Football Association donated 15 million Serbian Dinar (180,000 US Dollars)
