The British concept of a hybrid
Car makers around the world are embracing the "green" or the hybrid concepts for better fuel economy, lower emissions and more power, but the Brits have an interesting approach. Luxury car maker, Bentley announced its first “plug-in” hybrid concept for the upcoming Beijing auto show.
Usually, when someone talks about a hybrid car, everyone thinks of a small Toyota Prius or a Nissan Leaf. So a two tone Bentley monster is not regarded as a hybrid, but it could be soon. Bentley will unveil its hybrid concept at Beijing International Automobile Exhibition later this month. The vehicle is based on the Mulsanne model.
Apparently, Bentley will fit the new hybrid with the same 6.75 liter twin turbo V8 engine. By hybrid technology Bentley understands some electric engines developing more power and torque. It seems like the new car will have around 620 HP, but at the same time a 70 percent decrease in terms of CO2 emissions.
Being a “plug-in vehicle” the car will most like include a large number of batteries on which the car could run 31 miles (50km), Bentley claims. The British car maker owned by Wolkswagen Group promises that almost all of its vehicles will be available as a “plug-in” model by 2020. Although environmental friendly, the hybrid has a major problem, its price. The standard Mulsanne costs around 300,000 US dollars, while the hybrid could set any buyer back in excess of 400,000. Bentley is owned by Wolksvagen Group since 1998. The company's revenue grew last year with almost ten percent claiming an income exceeding 600 million dollars.
