“The Blue” goes on for sale

The largest diamond in the world is the masterpiece of an auction set about two weeks from now in Generava. The 13.22 carats gem is expected to sell for 21 to 25 million US dollars.

It was described by the famous auction house Christie's as “the largest fancy vivid blue diamond in the world”. The auction house in Geneva confirmed the diamond is privately owned and that the seller wanted to remain anonymous. The “Magnificent Jewels” auction will also feature a few precious gems, but “The Blue” is second to none.

It's price tag is somewhere between 21 and 25 million US dollars, but some names in the game expect the price to go as high as 30 millions. It would not be the first time. The largest orange diamond in the world brought its owner 35.5 million US dollars, although Christie's started the bid last year at 18 millions.

The same auction will also feature a 31 carat colourless gem called “Victory Diamond”. It is the property of Florence Gould, a famous jewelery collector and it is estimated it will bring him around 9 million US dollars.
