Spaniards are upset by the World Cup rewards
Football became more than a phenomenon and left the sports domain fore more than a decade. It's a 100 percent business and figures prove it. Spain is the reigning World Champion and there is a lot at stake for all players of “La Roja”.
Despite not having financial stability back home, every player will be awarded just shy above 700,000 euros if Spain retains the most renowned trophy in football. Xavi, Iniesta and the rest of the team will not come home empty handed even it they don't win. They will get 140,000 euros if they make it into the final and close to 110,000 if they reach the semifinals.
The figures are crazy large most Spaniards consider. Every member of the team that won the 2010 World Cup was rewarded 530,000 euros. Winning the World Cup would give Spain bragging rights of winning back to back trophies not only at the Euros, but still, the financial situation in Spain is not adapted for these figures.
“Winning the World Cup brings in a lot of cash money. For us, it's an investment. We are sharing with the players what we are paid by FIFA,” said the Royal Spanish Football Federation.
Almost everyone in Spain understands the importance of the final tournament, but media claims every team member is a professional and payed by their teams with high salaries. However, these figures revealed by the Spanish Federation mock the whole country.
