San Sebastian is the most expensive city in Spain
People living in the city of San Sebastian are living in style and expensive. The Basque city has been named the most expensive city in Spain, surpassing Madrid and Barcelona.
The cost of living in San Sebastian or Donoista (Basque name) is three time higher than the national average. The rate increases when compared to other Spanish provincial capital cities. The second most expensive city to live in was Madrid and Barcelona was third, the two biggest cities in the country.
The study was based on five categories to reach these conclusions. Taken in consideration were prices regarding proprieties, taxes (council rates, traffic taxes and real estate taxes), public and private transport cost, entertainment and shopping.
However, the same study revealed that these the regions, where living costs are higher than the national average, have also the highest salaries. Workers in Basque Country, Madrid and Catalonia earn, on average, more than 1,750 euros, post-tax. On the other side, in the Canary Islands and in Extremadura there are the smallest salaries. The average salary in Spain is almost 23,000 euros a year.
