Roommates return $40k found in couch
Three young roommates did an honorable gesture after they reunited a 91-years-old woman with her life savings, worth $40,000.
When the elderly woman, who lives in New York, was hospitalized and operated for back problems, her daughter, unknowingly, gave the couch the woman used to sleep on and replaced it with a bed. Her daughter was unaware, though, that her mother had been stashing money in one of the arm cushions for over 30 years.
When the three roommates found the $40,000 inside the couch that they bought from the Salvation Army, they decided the best thing to do was to return the money to their rightful owner: 'We had a lot of moral discussions about the money. We all agreed that we had to bring the money back to whoever it belonged to. It's their money—we didn’t earn it,' said one of the three.
Grateful for receiving her savings, the elderly woman rewarded her young benefactors with $1,000.
