New coins for Crimea

Russia’s reunification with the Ukrainian region of Crimea has been celebrated this week with the print of a new coin.

A Russian manufacturer printed the coin which has Putin’s face on one side and the map of Crimea on the other.

But how celebrated this ‘reunification’ actually is, is a difficult matter to assess.

A direct consequence of the Crimean annexation is that Russia’s economy is riding down a very slippery slope and has nothing ahead but more economic sanctions coming from the EU and the US.
