Large display division hands LG large income
LG and Samsung, the two Korean arch-rivals have been engaged in a battle for years. Although most of them are won by Samsung, LG found a domain where it kick Samsung where it hurts the most.
Although Samsung's income and profits are far larger than LG's, the smaller Korean company leads the way when it comes to large TV's. LG reported increasing figures in the final quarter of 2013 and in the first one this year. It is all due to home entertainment and large display division who made an impact on the market.
Samsung is considered world wide a premium brand with quality written all over the place, but the prices are premium to. LG managed to keep prices a bit more competitive and also keep the premium feel. Now, they claim LG sells more big screens than any other manufacturer in the world. LG officials stepped up and even said their brand owns a quarter of the market share.
The official figures say LG sold in the last 12 months display technologies worth of 13 billion US dollars witch is three times better than what the Koreans did a year ago. The mobile division did quite good. LG claims it sold in excess of 12 million smartphones in the last 12 months, about 20 percent more than a year ago. However, this is where Samsung trashes LG with a reported figure of 110 million units.
LG plans to fight back and gain some market share and income as well thanks to its flagship LG G3 smartphone. The new device will launch midway through May and the Koreans expect it will top G2 sales, its best selling model ever.
